John 1: 29 - 34
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
This is he of whom I said, `After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.' I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel."
And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, `He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'
And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God."
Reflection
Do you attribute all your successful achievements to yourself or to the Lord who has given you these graces and blessings for the glory of His Name?
John the Baptist clearly knows God's mission and purpose over his life. He was tasked to prepare the way for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. In doing so, he became great and well known to the people to the extent that even King Herod feared him. In spite of his stature and popularity, he left no room to focus on himself but remained faithful to his calling. When the fulfillment of the prophecy came, he was humble enough to accept and bear witness that Jesus, who ranks before him, is the Son of God who takes away the sin of the world.
The greatest achievement in life comes in a single act of humility.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you are the Son of God, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! You have always been with the Father even at the beginning of time and all of creation were subjected under your feet. All of my works and achievements were made possible because of your mercy and grace that were all meant to give you glory and praise. Today, I humbly offer you my heart of love and appreciation for all the good things that you have done and continue to do over my life.
