Grace to the Humble

But he bestows a greater grace; therefore, it says: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so you will find favor in the sight of the Lord (Sirach 3:18). For the Lord of all shows no partiality, nor does he fear greatness, because he himself made the great as well as the small, and he provides for all alike (Wisdom 6:7). He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way (Psalm 25:9).

Live in a manner

with all humility and gentleness,

Be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5).

The greatest achievement in life comes in a single act of humility.

After me comes a man who ranks before me, for He was before me (John 1:30). He must increase, but I must decrease (John 3:30).

Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has risen no one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he (Matthew 11:11).

Humility sown in the hearts of men grows patiently until it achieves greatness not for its own but for the benefit of others.

"It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade" (Mark 4:30-32).

Self-centeredness and pride is a mask that covers the innermost beauty and goodness of men.

"But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.

Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and salutations in the market places.

Woe to you! For you are like graves which are not seen, and men walk over them without knowing it."

One of the lawyers answered him, "Teacher, in saying this you reproach us also."

And he said, "Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
